Pat Bamford Joins the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder

The striker has joined Sheffield United only half a year after starting derogatory taunts directed at their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a deal joining the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent this past summer.

Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead offensive songs about Chris Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift the team he loves out of the relegation zone.

Previous History Involving Bamford & the Manager

The pair had history prior to Leeds moved up to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation & Looking Ahead

All seems to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front and Bamford hoping to revive his career.

The song about Wilder went viral this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I valued and admired him calling me.

“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that is an integral part of the game at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Challenges

The forward featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
